This month I have decided to challenge myself with NaNoWriMo (National November Writing Month). The challenge is basically to write a novel or 50,000 words in one month. Yikes. So far it’s gone pretty well actually. I have met my word goals everyday. I hope by the end of the month that I will have completed the first initial draft of the suspense novel I am working on. I have never done anything like this before, but I figured it was about time to buckle down on my writing and start producing something if I want to be published by the time I get out of college.
So, I have definitely learned a lot this week about writing and life passions in general so here they are:
1. I must make the time. Time doesn’t move itself around for me.
2. I need to be committed. If I’m not committed, I won’t be writing. Instead I’ll be watching Friends (which by the way I’m excited to announce that I only have the last two episodes to watch 🙂 ).
3. I cannot be obsessed with meeting my goals. Obsessions are unhealthy and will lead to me being unable to walk away and do something else. Even though I have a goal to meet, I also must be aware that there is more to life than writing.
4. I need to let Jesus guide me in my passions. As Tobymac would put it, don’t be a backseat driver with Jesus. Life is a lot less stressful when we give all the control to Jesus.
